What is Keto?

The keto diet involves consuming foods that are high in fat and low in carbs daily. I try to keep my carb count around 50 g per day as I am breastfeeding. The average keto eater tends to keep their carb count around 25 g per day for best results. Contrary to what you may have heard from other keto dieters, fat consumption is not the most important part of my way of eating keto. I consume just enough healthy, fatty foods to satiate myself. I have more than enough fat in my body. My goal is to have my body burn said fat. If I am over-consuming fat, my body will be burning the fat I consuming instead of the fat I am trying to get rid of.

Why did I start the Keto diet?

I tried several diets and none of them proved to be as effective as the keto diet in a short space of time. I started with intermittent fasting and research into that way of eating led me to the keto diet.

How did I start the Keto diet?

I started by slowly removing carbs from my meals. Most of the meals in my culture are centered around carbs. An increase in  my fat intake helped this transition. Fatty foods keep you full and then you are less likely to indulge in carbs. As I mentioned before, be mindful of your fat consumption. In the early stages of your keto journey, you may get away with overeating fats while eating really low carb and still lose weight. Once your body becomes keto-adapted, you will have to get serious with monitoring your fat intake and also calorie intake.
