Why Did I Start Keto?

When my husband and I started dating, I was in the best shape of my life. I was eating at a caloric deficit, working out, and drinking water like my life depended on it. Fast food disgusted me. I planned my meals right down to my snacks in order to avoid being forced to eat fast food.

As my now husband and I began to spend more time together, I focused less on myself and more on the relationship. Time that was spent in the gym before was now spent getting to know each other more. I was in love! The say the way to a man’s heart is through his belly. I began cooking up a storm for him. There wasn’t much time left for meal prepping so I ate whatever I made for him. It worked…He asked me to be his wife!

Around the time of our engagement, I was promoted at my job and I took on a second job all while finishing up my bachelors degree full time. Making time for the gym was now impossible. Planning a wedding, preparing to relocate to a new state with my new husband, finishing my degree, and staying on top of my new responsibilities at work became my main priorities. My eating spiraled out of control.

Rumors started going around that my fiance got me pregnant before the wedding. That is how big I had gotten. The only thing that kept me out of feeling depressed about my weight was the love of my fiance. He consistently reassured me of how beautiful I was and how he couldn’t wait to have all of my body to himself. God, I love that man! Even so, I still felt self-conscious. My clothes weren’t fitting the same and my wedding dress fitting was right around the corner. I tried my best to keep track of calories and go back to calorie counting until the wedding in the midst of all of my other duties. Instead, I yo-yo dieted all the way to my wedding date.

After we got married, I promised myself that I would get back in shape. I wanted to be a hot wife! I got back in the gym, started meal prepping and kept track of everything I ate. The weight began to fall off and I was making my way back to healthy me. A few months into my marriage and revived weight-loss journey, my husbands daughter came to live with us. It happened again! My gym time was no longer mine. I now had a six year old to raise. Time that was spent working out was now dedicated to getting our daughter ready for school, doing her hair, helping her with her homework, doing after school activities, etc.

I lost myself in my new life and responsibilities. After one miscarriage, a new baby boy , and about 55 lbs of weight gain I had enough. I couldn’t recognize myself. I needed a drastic change, but I had little time to lose the weight the way I used to do it.

I hit the Google and discovered intermittent fasting. It was a good solution to my problem. I could lose weight without having to be in the gym every day and it didn’t require much time and planning. I lost about 15 lbs and then plateaued. I refused to go back to my highest weight so I hit the Google again and then discovered the keto diet. I married the two diets and lost a total of 42 lbs. My prayers were answered!

The most comprehensive guide that I recommend to educate yourself on the best keto practices for optimal weight-loss is the keto challenge. The keto way of eating is more than a diet. Its a lifestyle change. Educating yourself on all there is to know about keto is important. Let’s learn together and lose this weight together. Keto on!
